Farmers & Merchants Company has built a strong reputation as a “Crop Insurance Specialist”. We are a full-line insurance agency offering insurance for autos, homeowners, commercial, life, health, & long term care. We have differentiated ourselves from most other agencies pertaining to crop insurance, by offering outstanding service, valuable insight, advice, and education as to the details of the very complex crop insurance policy. We have hosted “Marketing Seminars”, providing much needed education, and encouragement for local farmers to forward price a portion of the grain. We can’t thank our loyal customers enough, and make several attempts each year to communicate that to them in a variety of ways.

Ken Smith has been the Agency Manager since 1982. His crop insurance expertise has allowed him the opportunity to be considered the “Crop Insurance Specialist” for First Insurance Group, one of the largest insurance groups in the Midwest, headquartered in Omaha, Nebraska. In addition to servicing the crop insurance needs in Knox & Cedar County, Ken also works with farmers in the York/Geneva area, as well as manages the crop insurance accounts written through the Blair Insurance Agency.

Becky Millikan has been the agency’s secretary/bookkeeper since 1995. Her primary responsibility is keying the crop insurance data into the computer, as we are online with our companies. In effect, we process our own business directly to the companies. We also key the business for three other agencies located in the First Insurance Group chain.
